#OctPoWriMo 22 – Salt Rock

Ancient oceans once ruled this land
Salt water teeming with creatures
Large and small
Dried up layers remain
Limestone rock, hardened fossils
Deep below the earth
Salt rock
Striped with impurity
Gray upon gray
Cast through shattered crystals
I hold ancient history
In the palm of my hand

Note: Salt taken from the salt mine museum in Hutchinson, Kansas. If you don’t mind taking a dark elevator several hundred feet below the ground, stop by for a tour.
